How to undo something the AI did

Short answer: Undo works at three levels: right-click a chat reply to revert just that reply’s file and card changes, click “Revert this run” on a Workers History card to undo an entire agent or workflow run, or restore a deleted file from the Windows Recycle Bin. Sends (email, Discord, Notion) aren’t covered: a message can’t be unsent once it’s left your machine, which is why those always ask before they go.

Steps

How do I undo one chat reply’s edits?

  1. Right-click the assistant’s reply in the chat and choose Undo edits….
  2. In the dialog, tick the changes you want reverted, both file edits and card changes (added, edited, or deleted cards). Everything’s checked by default. Click Revert selected.
  3. The message gets a small ”↩ N edits reverted” badge, and the AI is told on its next turn that the changes were undone.

How do I undo an entire agent or workflow run?

  1. Open the Workers panel and switch to the History tab.
  2. Find the run’s card (newest first) and click Revert this run.
  3. Every file that run touched (across every step, if it was a workflow) is restored to how it looked before the run started.

How do I recover a file the AI deleted?

  1. Open the Windows Recycle Bin.
  2. Find the file and restore it the normal way. delete_file always routes through the Recycle Bin rather than deleting permanently, so an AI-deleted file is recoverable the same way any file you delete yourself is.

Notes & gotchas

  • If a file changed again after the AI’s edit (a later run, or you editing it yourself outside the app), reverting warns you first instead of silently discarding the newer version.
  • Undo covers file edits and card changes (added, edited, or deleted cards), not sends. An email, Discord message, or Notion write can’t be unsent, which is why those always stop at an approval step before they leave your machine instead of relying on undo afterward.
  • Regenerating a reply or editing-and-resending your last message doesn’t auto-revert what the replaced reply did. Build Perch instead hides both options on any turn that wrote a file, edited a card, or sent something, specifically so replaying it can’t double an edit or repeat a send.
  • Delete this run (on a History card’s menu) is different from Revert: it removes the card from History, giving up the ability to revert that run later, without touching the files it changed or its saved log.
  • History has a size cap: Settings controls how many run cards and activity-log entries are kept, and the Manage Workspaces window has a Clear undo history action if you want to give up older undo capability on purpose.
  • There’s no single Ctrl+Z for AI actions; undo runs strictly through the right-click menu, the History card button, and the Recycle Bin.
