Regenerate & edit-and-resend
Short answer: Regenerate asks the AI to try its last reply again from scratch; edit-and-resend lets you change your last message and get a fresh reply to the edited version. Both replace only the most recent exchange in the chat; right-click the message to use them.
What do Regenerate and Edit & resend do?
Both rework the LAST exchange in a chat, and only the last one. Regenerate discards the AI’s most recent reply and asks the same question again, for a fresh answer. Edit & resend lets you change the text of your last message before it’s sent again, replacing the reply that followed it. Editing an OLDER message in the conversation (which would mean discarding every turn after it) isn’t supported; Build Perch only reworks the most recent turn.
How do I use them?
Right-click the AI’s last reply for Regenerate, or right-click your own last message for Edit & resend; both live in the message’s context menu, with no toolbar button. Edit & resend opens a small text box pre-filled with your original message; edit it and click Resend, or press Ctrl+Enter.
Why aren’t they available on every message?
Both options remove the last turn and then replay it, and that’s only safe when nothing outside the chat itself changed. If the AI’s reply wrote or edited a file, added or updated a card, or sent an email, Discord message, or Notion write during that turn, those effects are not undone before the replay, so re-running it could duplicate a document, double an edit, or send the same message twice. Build Perch hides Regenerate and Edit & resend on any turn that made a change like that; they’re offered only on turns that were pure conversation or used read-only tools. And regenerating only ever replaces chat messages: it never deletes files from your workspace, so anything the AI has created on disk stays there.
Good to know
- Both work only in the chat you’re currently viewing. Switching to a different chat hides them there, but they’re available again when you switch back. Finish an in-progress Edit & resend before switching, though: clicking Resend while a different chat is active does nothing.
- If your last message included attached files, the replayed prompt is text-only: attachment contents aren’t stored in chat history, so regenerating or editing a turn that attached a file won’t re-send the file itself.
- Messages with an image, audio, video, or generated-document result attached aren’t offered these options.
