Prompt presets
Short answer: A prompt preset is a saved piece of instruction text (a title and a body) that you can reuse in any chat. Drop it into the message box for a one-off, or anchor it to a chat so it rides along with every message you send until you remove it.
What is a prompt preset?
It’s an instruction you write once and keep in a personal library: a persona (“you are a senior architect reviewing my code”), an output rule (“always answer in short bullet points”), or a task scaffold you’d otherwise retype. Presets are yours and global: the same library is available in every workspace and every chat.
Should I use a preset once or anchor it?
Each preset can be applied two ways, and you pick per use:
- Use drops the preset’s text into the message box as an ordinary, editable message. Good for a one-shot task where you want to adjust the wording before sending.
- Anchor (the 📌 pushpin) pins the preset to the current chat. Its text is then included behind the scenes with every message you send in that chat (without you retyping it) until you un-anchor it. Good for a standing persona or response rule you want to hold for the whole conversation.
How do I create and manage presets?
Open Prompt Presets from the menu (under Configuration) or from the + Insert button in the message bar. Click New Preset, fill in Prompt Title and Prompt Content, and save. Saved presets appear under Created Presets, where you can edit or delete them.
How does anchoring work?
Anchoring is per chat, not global: two chats can carry different anchored presets, and an anchor reloads with its chat next time you open it. You can anchor more than one at a time. When a chat has anchors, a 📌 pill in the chat header lists them; click it to manage them, and click a lit pushpin again to un-anchor.
Can a preset override the AI’s rules?
An anchored preset carries your authority: it outranks anything the AI reads from tools, files, or the web, so your standing instruction wins over content the AI pulls in. It does not outrank Build Perch’s built-in safety rules: a preset can shape tone, format, and role, but it can’t switch off an approval step or the app’s other guardrails.
